We first learnt about our own little island - The United Kingdom of Great Britain, we found it on the map and talked about what it meant to be a capital city and what sort of things we would find there. We learnt some amazing new vocabulary including architecture, government, villages, towns and cities. The children were fascinated by the world map so we went onto to learnt about some other countries around the world including China and Chinese New Year and also Russia because the children couldn't beliveve how big it was! We learnt about different cultures, food, traditions and famous people from those areas including learning about Tchaicovsky, the Russian Composer. We watched parts of The Nutcracker and Swam Lake and learnt about musical instruments and what an orchestra was. We got so much from this topic that parents came into school to tell our teachers how blown away they were by our new knowledge!
